Lettering logo and vignettes for Magasinet FilterBjörn BerglundLettering logo and vignettes for Magasinet FilterJenni Carström, Art Director at award-winning Magasinet Filter (for example Stora Journalistpriset, Guldspaden and Årets Tidskrift), wanted a hand-drawn mark to celebrate their 10 year anniversary as a magazine. Jenni already had found a “swooshy” script style on my website that would fit, so my initial focus was to find a good composition for the lettering. After a whole lot of free hand sketching I selected four options to show Jenni and Magasinet Filter. They chose an option where I had designed the number “10” in the same lettering style as the logo for the magazine – the two lettering style works perfect together! Besides the celebration mark I also designed year vignettes for the celebration issue (2008–2017). Logo symbol for Plasten 100 år i Sverige Björn BerglundLogo symbol for Plasten 100 år i Sverige Cecilia Svensson, Vice President Group Communications & Sustainability at Perstorp Holding AB, needed help to create a logo symbol for the celebrating of 100 years of plastics in Sweden. The logo symbol should give a sense of celebration/jubilee, time journey and also include a bit of playfulness. To strengthen the playfulness and, at the same time, the durable sense and avoid connections to the “wear-and-tear” (in Swedish “slit och släng”) aspects of plastics I added some complementary iconic sustainable plastic kitchen tools. Fictional magaziner cover with candy letteringBjörn BerglundFictional magaziner cover with candy letteringMy friends over at Layer-Lab, wanted me to letter the phrase “Sex & Candy” and use that piece to create a fictional magazine cover using their isolated png images. The purpose, obviously, were to show how easy it is to create stunning artworks with Layer-Lab and their images. First step was to sketch the phrase with pencil and paper to find a interesting composition. Once that was done I vectored the lettering. After that I used the high-resolution and isolated (i.e. transparent background) images from Layer-Lab to create the artwork. By choosing the same lightning it were a piece of cake to match them together. For full project description, please visit my website at www.bjornberglund.com

Typographic cover for Magasinet NEOBjörn BerglundTypographic cover for Magasinet NEOLina Högberg, Art Director at Magasinet NEO, wanted a hand-drawn design for the cover of this years 4th issue. After initial discussions I was given pretty much free hands to create a totally hand-drawn typographic cover. My initial focus was to find a suitable style. I researched a lot to find the right type of lettering and the effects that I wanted. The chosen lettering style suited the vision of the magazine and also has a subtle familiarity to the NEO logotype. I started drawing the main headline. Next step was to find a good layout and create the hierarchy between the main headline, its subheading and the smaller headlines. To avoid the cover to be cluttered I used four fixed sizes of letters. I also added some suitable illustrative elements to fill the blanks in the cover. To highlight the main headline even more I added shadows, etc. The background has a subtle gradient and a combination of different textures in order to give it more depth. All type was initially hand-drawn by pencil and then refined digitally. For the printed cover the headlines are covered with UV varnish. For full project description, please visit my website at www.bjornberglund.com
Poster with words from Charles bukowski for Goode Luck. Björn BerglundPoster with words from Charles bukowski for Goode Luck. Since the famous writer Charles Bukowski was drunk most of the time and slept around a lot, we wanted the hand-lettering to be quite rough. It should give a sense of being scribbled done in the spirit of the moment. All type has been drawn by hand, first with lead pencil and then with a brush pen. The drawing has then been digitally refined for the final piece. Commissioned work for Goode Luck. The poster was printed with white ink on black 100 lb French paper. Lettering illustration for Lendo adBjörn BerglundLettering illustration for Lendo adAward-winning Swedish agency Jung Von Matt needed a lettering for their client Lendo. The main message were “You are worth a lower bank rate than you think”. Jung Von Matt wanted the ad and lettering to flirt with motivational posters like “Make today great” or “Carpe Diem”. I received a couple of style direction images for inspiration and the sentence “Du är värd mindre än du tror” (i.e. “You are worth less than you think”). Jung Von Matt was looking for happy, classy, good looking and hand-crafted letters. Jung Von Matt also wanted the lettering to form a shape and to have gold and green as the color scheme. The final ad was published in the Swedish newspaper "Dagens Nyheter". For full project description, please visit my website at www.bjornberglund.com
