What is your name and how would you briefly describe what you do?
My name is Franciska Sieurin-Lönnqvist. I was educated as an achaeologist during the 1970´s at the University of Uppsala, but my dream was to become an artist or a graphic designer. After many years as an achaeologist I had the opportunity to change path and begun drawing archaeological finds in connection with a new large excavation. I also got to learn how to manage InDesign (Pagemaker), Illustrator and Photoshop during the 1990´s. That became the path that I chose and so I have continued. I started up my own business in 2001, Arkeobild, where I work with illustrations, layout, draw maps, some graphic design and so on. But there is so much more that I would like to do…!
What part of your creative work do you like the most?
I love my work! There is so much to do, and I think it´s the many-sidedness that I like best. In one project I might sit and draw, or paint with real paints, at my desk, and the next day I might draw or paint in Illustrator. And the week after I might be working on a new graphic design for a manual or something completely different, or I might be working on a diagram in Excel: how to make it more presentable? …and all the time I have an easel standing by with a new painting….
What are you working with right now?
Right now I´m working with the layout of archaelological reports at the Maritime Museums of Sweden. This is really interesting work as I can keep up to date with what is happening in the archaeological world at the same time as I do the things I like. Couldn´t be better!
