Karin Åström Bengtsson

What is your name and how would you briefly describe what you do?

My name is Karin Åström Bengtsson and I’m an illustrator and artist. I also study part-time and on distance to become an art teacher. My idea is to combine my own creative projects with teaching art in some form – workshops, courses and art students at school.

For almost ten years now I have illustrated childrens’s books. One book a year. And I have been lucky enough to work with super-professional Swedish publishers, BonnierCarlsen and Lilla Piratförlaget. My books are also published in Denmark and Norway. As an illustrator I work with watercolour – aquarelle, gouache, acrylics – on paper. Even tempera. I do sketching and drawing with charcoal, ink and pencils. I’m very analog!

A challenge I have given myself is to combine my analog artwork with digital techniques. Wish me luck. My analog heart trembles a little. But it’s going to be fun! I hope!!!
